A Bird in the Hand

Join us for a morning of up close and personal looks at the songbirds that call the park home. From cardinals and chickadees to goldfinches and native sparrows, well be capturing, banding and releasing these birds and others. Youll learn identification tips, natural history, and when you help release a bird, youll receive a certificate of appreciation and automatic membership in the GRSP Bird Buddy Club. Meet at the Rust House.
Honey Creek Hike

You are invited to join our trained Honey Creek guides for a walk to Honey Creek. This beautiful stream and surrounding environment is one of the scenic wonders of the Hill Country. Youll learn about both the natural and cultural history of this area during this approximate two-hour hike. Sponsored by the Friends of Guadalupe River and Honey Creek, a suggested donation of $5 per family or $2 per individual is requested. Meet at the Rust House.
Things That Dont Go Bump in the Night
7-8 p.m.
Join us for a look at the world of nocturnal animals and their incredible adaptations that allow them to find their way, and their food, under the cover of dark. Following the presentation, well head out for a look, listen and smell of the dark side of life. Bring your flashlight! Meet at the amphitheatre.

Harvest Moon Hike
7-8:30 p.m.
Join our Park Interpreter for a walk under the Harvest Moon. Well begin with an introduction as to what makes a Harvest Moon then head to the river to watch as it rises above the river bluff. Afterwards well take a short hike and then view our satellite with a telescope. Meet at the Amphitheatre.

Bugs-R-Us!

With the arrival of late summer and fall, now is the perfect time to dust off our insect nets and head to the fields in search of butterflies, grasshoppers and more! Join us for these Saturday morning adventures as we capture, study and then release a multitude of six-legged, bug-eyed critters. Well provide the nets and holding containers; all you need is your enthusiasm and sense of adventure. Meet at the Amphitheatre.
River Wonders
1-2:30 p.m.
The Guadalupe River is home to an amazing diversity of animal life, from frogs and fish to damsel- and dragonflies. So put on your wet shoes, hike up those britches, grab a net and plunge into the river with us as we check out who lives in, on and around the water for these sure-to-be fun adventures. Meet at the Amphitheatre.

Bird Walk and Talk
8-11 a.m.
Join our Park Interpreter for a leisurely morning walk through Honey Creek State Natural Area in search of seasonal migrants as well as resident birds. From spotted towhees to rufous-crowned sparrows and migrating raptors, well enjoy our feather-winged wonders. Bring binoculars (we have a limited number for loan), field guide and be sure to dress for the weather, including wearing sturdy boots or shoes. Meet at the front gate.

Stories in the Stars
7-8:30 p.m.
The night skies above our park will provide the backdrop for an evening of fun and wonder as we point our telescopes skyward. Join us for a look at the galaxies, nebulas, planets and other celestial wonders of the night, and learn to navigate across the sky using the constellations, as well. Well even throw in a audience-participation constellation story to add to the enjoyment of the evening. Meet at the Amphitheatre.

Halloween in the Park
6-9 p.m.
Its that time of year again for our Friends group annual Halloween in the Park event. Put on your best costume, load up your family and come out to the park for an evening of fun, stories, food and fright of the fun kind. Hosted by the Friends of Guadalupe River and Honey Creek, this community event is designed for children of every age in a safe and not-too-scary environment. This program is held at the Amphitheatre behind the Interpretive Center.

Amazing Mammals

From smelly skunks to prickly porcupines, mammals are a truly amazing group of animals. Using our collection of skins and skulls, youll get a close up look at the adaptations of Texas mammals, learn about their natural history and then head outdoors for a hike in search of them and the signs they leave behind. Meet at the Amphitheatre.
Owls, Bats and Other Creatures of the Night
7-8:30 p.m.
Looking for an alternative to the candy chase that is Halloween? Then join our Park Interpreter for a special evening of fun as we explore the nature of the night. From owls and bats to critters with glowing eyes, well head out on the trails to discover what the wild side of life does on this special night. Wear a costume if you like but be ready to hike! Meet at the Rust House.
