Honey Creek Hike
9-11 a.m.

You are invited to join our trained Honey Creek guides for a walk to Honey Creek. This beautiful stream and surrounding environment is one of the scenic wonders of the Hill Country. You’ll learn about both the natural and cultural history of this area during this approximate two-hour hike. Sponsored by the Friends of Guadalupe River and Honey Creek, a suggested donation of $5 per family or $2 per individual is requested. Meet at the Rust House.

Saturday Night Speaker Series: The Importance of Aquatic Critters
8-9 p.m.

Join guest Archis Grubh for an informative look the roles that the small critters play in aquatic environments. From the micro- to the macroscopic, you’ll discover that it is these critters that make it possible for the larger animals, from fish to herons and kingfishers, to thrive. This program is sponsored by the park’s Friends group. A donation of $5 per family or $2 per person is suggested. Meet at the Amphitheatre.

Kids in Nature: Amazing Insects
9:30-10:30 a.m.

Join us for a first-hand look at the world of six-legged critters. From butterflies to beetles, insects are among our most diverse animals in the world. We’ll take a look at their adaptations for survival then head to the forest and fields in search of our six-legged wonders. Meet at the Headquarters parking lot.

Nature Adventurers 101: It’s a Watery World!
2-3:30 p.m.

The river awaits and we’re grabbing the nets and buckets to find out just who lives in the watery depths. We’ll look for dragonfly and dobsonfly larvae, track down tadpoles and find fish. Be ready to get wet! Meet at the Amphitheatre.

Join Park Interpreter Craig Hensley as we explore the night side of the river. From fireflies and frogs to owls and eyeshine, we’ll see who’s out and about on a summer night. Kids in Nature: Who Goes There?
9:30-10:30 a.m.

The park is full of wildlife, but much of the time they seem impossible to find. Start your weekend by putting on your detective hat and we’ll figure out the clues that animals leave behind. After a short introduction, we’ll head out on the trails to figure out who does go there. Meet at the Amphitheatre.

Nature Adventurers 101: Pollywog Hunt
2-3:30 p.m.

Frogs and toads live all around the river, using it for hunting, hiding and laying eggs. We’re taking the nets to the water’s edge in search of not only the adults, but also their offspring. Join us as we search for pollywogs (tadpoles) with and without legs. Meet at the Amphitheatre.

Saturday Night Speaker Series: Stories in the Stars
8-9:30 p.m.

Join us for an introduction to the night sky. We’ll begin with the interactive story “The Perils of Andromeda” and then head out to check out the season’s constellations. We’ll even check out a few deep sky celestial delights with our telescopes.
