9 (Saturday) Bird Banding Workshop1- 4:30 p.m:

Meet at the Interpretive Center

Park Interpreter Craig Hensley will lead this workshop, training individuals interested in becoming involved with bird banding research at the park and natural area. Attendees will learn methodologies, review equipment used to capture and mark birds, and how data is collected. There will also be a hands-on bird banding demonstration. There is an event fee of $10 payable at the headquarters upon arrival.

9 (Saturday) Night Watch 7- 8:30 p.m

Meet at the Interpretive Center

Join Park Interpreter for a walk into the night as we look and listen for the sights and sounds of the night. From the glow of spider eyes to the sound of rustling leaves beneath the feet of wild critters, we’ll attempt to discover who’s out and about after the sun sets. This program is for all ages. Be sure to dress for the weather!

16 (Saturday) Fossil-rific! 10 - 11:30 a.m: Friends of GRSP & HCSNA Training: Winter Birds of Honey Creek

Meet at the Interpretive Center

Bring your 8 to 12 year olds out to the park for a morning of discovery and adventure as we learn about the critters of the past – the way past! Children will learn what fossils are, how they are formed and what they tell us about the past. We’ll include a hike in search of them and end the morning with a special fossil creation to take home. 16 (Saturday) Winter Birds Workshop 1 - 4:30 p.m

Meet at the Interpretive Center

This workshop will introduce Friends, volunteers/staff and community members to the winter birds that call Honey Creek SNA home during the winter. Identification tips and natural history highlights will be included, as well as tips on how to engage people with birds when encountered. This workshop is designed for ages 16 and up and participants are asked to provide their own binoculars. 16 (Saturday) Traveling Through the Night Sky 7- 9 p.m

Meet at the Interpretive Center

Join us for a night of star-gazing and storytelling as we explore the wonders of winter’s night sky. Learn how to find Orion, the Seven Sisters other constellations. Gaze at the Orion Nebula and the moon through telescopes and enjoy a fun (and funny!) audience participation story. If the sky is cloudy, the program will be cancelled. 23 (Saturday) Wet, Wild and Wonderful! 2 - 3:30 p.m

If you have a child between the ages of 7 and 10 years old, make plans to bring them to the park for an afternoon of fun in and along the banks of the Guadalupe River. We’ll use nets and buckets to discover what critters live in, on and around this watery world, as well as find out what we can do to take care of this precious resource. 23 (Saturday) A Froggin’ We Go! 7 - 8:30 p.m:

Meet at the Interpretive Center

As many as 18 kinds of frogs and toads have been found in Comal County, with at least seven found in Guadalupe River State Park and Honey Creek SNA. Join Park Interpreter Craig Hensley for a look at the work of frogs and toads, learn how these animals serve as indicators of environmental health and then head to Honey Creek to listen for early season calls and activity.
