3-13-2008 Board Meeting, Friends of Guadalupe River/Honey Creek, Inc.

Meeting called to order at 6:40pm; quorum established.

February minutes approved with corrections.

Treasurer’s Report by JW. Approved and filed. It was discussed and agreed upon that JW will note approved expenditures in the monthly treasurer’s report.

History - Bryden stated a local citizen is interested in surveying the original land settlements in the park area. Bryden will follow up on this.

Education-Holly reports 2 schools will come for the program, one school has dropped out due to scheduling conflicts. She will train MN volunteers to help with leading the activities.

Walks-JW, and Wilt will lead hike on Wed. March 19 at noon for spring break. Sat. March 15 an adventure group from Austin will come for tour with Tom. Craig distributed recommendations for size and control of HC hike groups and for money handling.

ACTION ITEM: Please review his suggestions and email comments by March 28.

Newsletter-Wilt moved to reimburse for cost up to $300 to purchase upgrade for Publisher software so newsletter can be sent via email.. Motion carried.

Terry will report on purchase at next meeting.

Newsletter articles for summer newsletter will be due at may meeting.

Website-Dan is working on adding audio and video to the site. Nancy suggested having a link on the website for people to request information and apply for membership. Dan will follow up at next meeting.

Sat. Evening Programs-Craig is sending monthly press releases to publicize the upcoming programs. On Sat. March 1, Craig had 67 people attend. After Easter, programs will begin at 7:00pm

ACTION ITEM: Bryden will introduce Kip Kiphart on March 29.

Maintenance-April 12 is River Clean up. Northside brush still needs to be cleared by burning or mulching. Friends may fund cost of moving brush piles off of trails.

Park Update-Craig needs help on Saturdays and Sundays to help man the interpretive center for 3-5 hours. In April.

A local citizen has offered to donate $3000 in wildscaping to GRSP. A project request needs to be submitted to TPWD. Craig will contact the landscaper for info on the donation and proposed plans. Bryden volunteered his wife, Kay Moon to help with the project.

ACTION ITEM:
Nancy will sort member list by interests to identify other potential volunteers aqnd give list to Tom.

May 3rd is International Migratory Bird Day. New Braunfels high school students will participate in bird related kid activities. Craig will lead a bird banding activitiy. Friends will provide lunch for the students.

Tom moves to approve up to $500 for supplies and food for the event; Bryden second; motion carries. Friends volunteers are needed as well.

Old Business:

New company has delivered the new vending machines; some problems are being addressed. Vendor is responding promptly.

Membership review- Nancy will contact a new member who showed interest in being membership chair. Nancy suggested sending welcome letters to all new members. Membership chair duties will be discussed at a later meeting.

In order to keep up to date on membership renewals it is necessary for a Friends member to pick up mail at the park at least once a week. This will be decided upon at a later meeting.

March 25 General Meeting plans:

Craig will lead the presentation. Sign up sheets will be available for specific events. Tom will discuss Interpretive Guide training, Holly will discuss Ed. Program and Craig will discuss the Interpretive Center. Reception will begin at 6:30 until 7:00 with food and drinks. Board members are asked to bring food. Nancy will have a 10 minute welcome and introduction of Board members. Craig will have his 20 min. program. Each interest group will have a sign up sheet: Dave-Park Restoration, Bryden-History/Culture, Holly-Education, Craig -Sat. and Sun. Interpretive Center.

Bryden will provide sign up sheets and Nancy will have name tages and signage.

Seeing no further business meeting was adjourned 8:45pm
